RxGen is a privately held preclinical research organization, leveraging more than 30 years of preclinical research experience by founding members to address critical preclinical research needs in the fields of central nervous system, ophthalmic and metabolic disorders. Our unique combination of capabilities and resources allow us to rapidly evaluate the pharmacokinetics, safety, and efficacy of novel therapeutics and medical devices.
RxGen’s mission is to aggressively advance the in vivo validation and development of novel therapeutics and drug delivery technologies. The pharmaceutical industry has experienced a revolutionary change as new high throughput methods facilitate rapid identification of potential therapeutic targets and subsequent development of candidate compounds, as well as the advent of RNAi and other powerful means of delivering on the promise of gene therapy. As a result, the downstream validation of putative targets and drugs has become a bottleneck in the development of new therapeutics. Among the most notable limitations in the process is the poor predictability of rodent models for both small molecules and biologics with regard to pharmacokinetics, metabolism, efficacy and safety.
RxGen is applying the close genomic, physiologic, and biochemical homology shared between humans and Old World primates to provide disease modeling and evaluation of drug safety and efficacy not possible in other animals, humans, or in vitro systems. RxGen principals have extensive experience with advanced CNS disease models, ophthalmic models, pharmacokinetics, toxicology and high throughput target identification and validation methods. RxGen has additionally brought together experts in the fields of CNS function and physiology, primate biology, visual systems, pharmacology, functional genomics, and bioinformatics in support of our mission to accelerate preclinical drug development. This combined experience and access to Old World primates in large numbers under healthy and humane conditions in a primate source country provides RxGen with a powerful platform for validating drug targets that will result in novel interventions, including small molecule, antibody, nucleic acid, and cell replacement therapies.
